Is Flash Animation Better Than HTML5?

Yes. And No. Above is a walk cyle in Flash, made using the Flash IDE. This is as good as the HTML5 animation on the next page...

So, now we have established that the quality can be the same for both....

Advantages of Flash over HTML5 for animation

  1. Lighter filesize
  2. Scaleable (you can goof on the stage size, and not have to start over !)
  3. More complex animations are easier to build
  4. Development cycle is shorter - it is quicker for the animator to create a quality animation

Disadvantages of Flash

  1. Won't play on iPads, and soon won't play on any mobile device without AIR
